Here are the highlights:
I caught a limit of stocked brook trout on a woolly bugger and caught some healthy stocked rainbows on streamers where Snowbird Creek runs into Lake Santeetlah.
Wednesday was an absolutely gorgeous day, and the fish were biting like crazy. In addition to a hat trick of wild fish (brook, brown and rainbow), I got a triple 20 - 20 fish on flies in three different creeks on the same day! I caught 18 small browns and two specs in the Wild Trout section of Santeetlah Creek (along with a few specs in Johns Branch), and then headed over to Little Santeetlah Creek to get wild rainbows. I only fished the stretch that's easily accessible from the picnic area, and quit when I hit 20. The Santeetlah browns and specs wanted nymphs, but the Little Santeetlah rainbows always prefer a dry. In fact, I'll make you a money-back guarantee - if you cast a dry fly in Little Santeetlah Creek, you will catch a rainbow trout. I don't think I have ever caught fewer than 20 in Little Santeetlah, but a 7-inch fish is a big one.
After taking a little side trip to get NEW CREEK #999, which I will put in a separate post, I fished Long Creek in Robbinsville to get my third 20-fish creek. Although the creek was a little low, it still only took about thirty minutes to catch my last 20.
