Chattooga River at Bull Pen bridge

ree

I have caught trout in nine new NC creeks since my last post, and eight of them were speckled trout streams! All but two were on public land, three were near a road, three require a moderate hike, and three require a strenuous hike. Six are tributaries of larger brook trout streams, and all would be considered "blue lines" by some fishermen, but only one fits my definition of a blue line - there is no name on the USGS topo map - it is literally just a blue line on the map. I will probably only fish one of them again, but because I did catch some nice wild brook trout (not all of the Southern Appalachian variety), I am not going to name the streams, but I will name the county. If you simply must know, or want to take a guess, just email me, or you can wait until I update my "creeks" list.

I also scrambled down a steep path to the Chattooga River a little ways downstream from the Bull Pen bridge, waded across, and worked my way upstream 200 yards to the mouth of Glade Creek, a creek I put on my bucket list because a good source informed me it contained specs. It might, but there are so many trees down over it you will need a chainsaw to get to the water. I may try it farther upstream later. Kevin Adams mentions in his waterfall book that it might have a waterfall where it runs into the Chattooga. Kevin, I heard one, but I'm way too old for the effort it was going to require to get to it, and I don't think you would be able to see much of it anyway.
